Orlando City Stadium Move

How are we going to reflect the fact that Orlando City is moving stadiums mid-season (or at least that's the plan) in the Stadiums and locations subsection? Elisfkc (talk) 17:56, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Positions by round

In most soccer leagues, football leagues actually, around the world, they list positions by round. The reason is that every team plays the same number of matches per week. There are exceptions, most notably when a game is rained-out or some other delay is forced on game play. In those leagues though, when every team has played nine matches/games after week nine, then it's easy to say that one team was in first place after nine matches and one team was in eighteenth place. In MLS, however, the play is not balanced that way. Last year, after the first team hit none games played, other teams had yet to play their fourth game. So how do you compare the teams after the ninth round? Do you record their points after each has played nine rounds and then you have to apply tie-break rules to the totals? While that's permitted through WP:CALC, it's has been rejected in the past as WP:OR. First sections of MLS season articles

I propose re-ordering two sections within this 2016 season article (these changes, if accepted, would also apply to future MLS season articles). Ideally in the season articles the first sections would present the most important information that readers are most likely to be looking for (e.g., conference standings). However, the first two sections of the 2016 season article take up a lot of space without presenting much useful information to the reader.

The first section of the current layout is a large section where much of the space is comprised of stadium photos. The stadiums and their images don't change much from year-to-year, plus all of this information is available at the List of MLS stadiums article. So no need to take up the most valuable space in the season article with this information. I propose instead we include a more streamlined table with no photos, similar to what is done for the Premier League (see 2015–16_Premier_League#Stadia).

The section section of the current layout is a long-ish list of allocation rankings. This table currently consists mostly of empty rows, and by the end of the season, will likely still consist of mostly empty rows (see 2015_Major_League_Soccer_season#Allocation_ranking). Very few readers of the MLS season article are looking for this information, and I'd guess many MLS fans don't even understand what this means. I propose we keep the table as-is, but move it to the bottom of the article.

Team of the Week

I propose we remove the Team of the Week table from this article. The table presents little useful information but takes up quite a bit of space. On an average size desktop, the table takes up a full screen and we are less than halfway through the season; by season's end the reader will have to scroll through several screens to make it through the table. Plus the table doesn't show particularly important information — I suspect not many readers in 2017 will look back to try to eagerly find out which midfielders were on team of the week for week seven. And the cites for this table appear to be the MLS website; if independent reliable sources are not picking up this information, that's a good signal that the information is not particularly useful. If anyone thinks this table will be missed, there are so, so many other tables that measure player performance: Top scorers, Top assists, Most shutouts, Player of the month, Player of the week, Goal of the week, Save of the week, Team of the week appearances, zzzz. Let's get rid of this table (which wasn't in the 2015 article), before it grows into a further unwieldy mess of colorful distracting flag icons. CUA 27 (talk) 01:51, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Table

Why are records in the table listed as W-L-T? First, it should be D for draw, not T. Second, it should be W-D-L, the same as it is for every other association football table on Wikipedi. DavidSteinle (talk) 21:33, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

First, draw is not the common term in North America and it's not used by MLS.

Second, this is the way that it is listed in MLS, http://www.mlssoccer.com/standings, despite what European leagues do (http://www.premierleague.com/tables, http://www.laliga.es/en/laliga-123 and http://www.bundesliga.com/en/stats/table/). Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:00, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

TOTW 11 - Morrow did not make Team of the Week, should not be listed

I removed Morrow from TOTW in Week 11 because he did not make the team of the week. Following the link cited shows that Zimmerman, Hernandez, and Williams made TOTW as Defenders.
