New ridings

I wondered if it'd just be left out seeing it could get rather confusing. However, the Ontario general election, 1999 shows how it can be done. I updated the charts with the new names here. I decided to change the charts a bit so that the categories are St. John's, St. John's suburbs, Avalon Peninsula, Eastern Newfoundland, Central Newfoundland and Western Newfoundland. Previously parts of what people would consider Eastern Newfoundland were under central and the Burin Peninsula was grouped with the Avalon. There are still some issues with regards to who the incumbents are in certain districts. For instance the district of Mount Scio takes in parts of three former districts. As does the district of Virginia Water-Pleaseantville which seems to take in almost equal parts of the former districts of St. John's East, Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi and Virginia Waters. You can re-organize them if you want, but my question is "why"? We will also have to do something in regards to the Waterford Valley riding which shared no territory with the previous riding called Waterford Valley (which became Mt Pearl North). I noticed there is a redirect at Waterford Valley (electoral district) but no article at Waterford Valley. -- Earl Andrew - talk 16:38, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

My issue with the way they're organized now is that they don't really reflect where they are located. For instance, the Central Newfoundland category has districts that many consider to be in Eastern Newfoundland. I don't really like how Western/Southern are together, especially seeing some of those districts are on the northern peninsula. I don't object to any re-ogranization, as long as each region has between 4 and 12 ridings in it (my personal preference). My suggestion for Waterford Valley is to just have all instances of the previous riding re-direct to Mount Pearl North, and have a note on both pages about the other district with the same name. (This is how I handled the Rideau Ward situation in Ottawa). There seems to be no precedent on Wikipedia, as we have ridings like York Centre (provincial electoral district) where the info about both iterations are on the same page despite not sharing any territory, while Saint John Harbour (electoral district) has a different article than Saint John Harbour (1974-1995), despite the riding sharing some territory. -- Earl Andrew - talk 18:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

If you look at the overlay map of St. John's East-Quidi Vidi it seems pretty clear that the district takes in significant portions of both St. John's East and Signal Hill-Quidi Vidi. In an interview Lorraine Michael also pointed out that half the polls from her district were put into SJEQV and half went to Virginia Waters - Pleaseantville. Candidates

People have been adding candidates who are seeking nominations - I've done some myself - but there seems to be many getting added now who I've seen nothing in the news or on social media about. Seems as though rumoured candidates are being added and this obviously isn't the place for it. I would prefer to only having candidates who have been officially nominated to run, rather than everyone who announces they may seek a nomination. As of right now there are about 11 candidates who have won their nominations, all Liberals. Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 13:19, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

I think precedent has indicated it is acceptable to list anyone who has announced they are running. However, if it is unsourced, then I would agree with removing the candidates. -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:36, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
