About the World Championship bracket

I may not notice that we should use more standard templates for 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship. The seed received by a team could be display next to the team on every round (as in soccer and basketball).

Here is my finished templates I would suggest:

IIHF World Championship

Please don't make this article a re-direct to 2014 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, as this article deals only with the championship round of the entire tournament, just like the other IIHF World Championship articles. GoodDay (talk) 16:07, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Groups and seeding

Symbolism

When will the teams be set?

Does anyone know when the national teams for these games will be all set?

Rosters are known a day or so prior to the start. It all depends. Official the IIHF publishes them on the start date of the tournament. Kante4 (talk) 19:32, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Qualified teams

I think Russia qualifies because 1) it scored 12 points and 28 * 3 / 7 = 12 (number_of_all_games * three points if win / number_of_teams) and 2) there will be games United States vs. Latvia; Belarus vs. Germany; Latvia vs. Belarus and Germany vs. United States — so I'm not sure that all four teams (Belarus, USA, Germany and Latvia) scores 12 points in 4 games for each team and overtake Russia. --Brateevsky ^{(talk to me)} 11:48, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

I however am sure by checking the remaining matches. As long as some of the head to head games go to overtime it is possible for USA to finish with 13, while LAT, BLR, and GER all can have 14 points.18abruce (talk) 11:54, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Actually simpler than that if Finland beat Belarus now: if Finland and USA go to overtime with each other, win their other two games, Latvia defeats Russia, Belarus defeats Russia and either Latvia or Germany, then Russia is 5th place, and there are other possibilities yet as well.18abruce (talk) 18:49, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Sweden and Canada are qualified for QF. Slovakia, Denmark and Italy cannot have 13 points. Czech republic, France and Norway play with each other, so they can get maximum of 18 points in total. Yes. Sweden qualified and will be the from first place to third place. It's obviously. What about Canada...If France and Norway will get 13 points, then Czech Republic will get at best 9 points. NHL.com claims USA is qualified for the Quarterfinals. (Source) This is however incorrect. For instance, this scenario leads to USA being eliminated on head-to-head record:

• Belarus defeats Latvia - Blr 12p
• Latvia defeats Switzerland - Lat 12p
• Germany defeats Russia and USA - Ger 11p.

Leads to the table:

• Rus 15
• Blr 12
• Lat 12
• Ger 11
• USA 11

As long as France holds their four goal lead FRA and CZE will be qualified for the quaterfinals. Whoever wins the game between them will be third place, the loser could end up in a three way tie for fourth, however both NOR and SVK lost their head-to-head games with both FRA and CZE.18abruce (talk) 15:51, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Few things.

1) It looks better next to eachother.

• True, I took this idea from the 2014 FIFA World cup qualification. Only problem is they have it built into a template.

2) The scores needs to be displayed twice, empty fields don't look good.

• That would look like two games for each pair of teams

3) Take a look at the EHF CL articles or UEFA CL ones for other display opinions (although this one is pretty good).

4) IF we do that, we could link to the games directy with the "div template". I though about splitting earlier, but decided against it. So still not sure and we should wait for more editors to weigh in.

P.S.: 1 nation is missing on each side.

graphics

I don't understand some of the graphics. First, the map has the title "Participants and their results." what does that mean? What are the groups of numbers? Second, in the long list of game results, which team is on the left, and which on the right? It's not winner and loser, respectively. Kdammers (talk) 23:56, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Graphic shows how each team finished. And what??? It's just "home" vs. "away" as assigned by the IIHF. We don't sort them by winner/loser. You can see the result by looking at the score? Kante4 (talk) 17:49, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

2014 IIHF World Championship should be merged with (i.e. added to) 2014 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships — these articles are about one and the same issue. DobryBrat (talk) 11:05, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Actually no they aren't. This article is about the top tier tournament, the championship tournament, the other one is a gerbil one about all of the IIHF tourneys last year. Dbrodbeck (talk) 11:35, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

They should not be merged, in fact we decided to break the 2015 article down further. The plural 'Championships' is simply that, a listing of six different tournaments providing direction and context to each, while the singular 'Championship' signifies the top level only.18abruce (talk) 19:20, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

controversy over final game?

Just in case, perhaps there is a some issue of controversy in the final game. It appears that it amounts to, "my team lost because of the refs," but perhaps there is something that satisfies WP:RS that is more than that.18abruce (talk) 19:56, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
