Talk:2011 Tour Down Under

Cancer Council Classic edit

Even if it's a separate race, it is part of the Tour Down Under and worth to be noted on this page. The official website must know better when it says:

Santos Tour Down Under Starts Today

  • "The wait is over for diehard cycling fans who have been counting down to the start of the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under. The event begins at 6.45pm tonight with the Cancer Council Classic in Adelaides East End."
  • "Team presentations begin at 4.30pm, and the public will get to see all the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under riders presented for the first time. The Cancer Council Classic will start at 6.45pm around Rymill Park, Adelaide."

So maybe it's not a prologue, with the times taken into account, but removing the edit is not correct. Please revert or do somehow to include this one too in the article. BaboneCar (talk) 13:03, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

As a separate race, it's not part of the Tour Down Under. It may be notable enough for its own page. The organizers are referring to a wider "festival". But it's not part of the race proper. SeveroTC 13:37, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
It is since the entire media is concentrating on it as an common event with the Tour Down Under. Also, the riders of the classic are the same to take part in the Tour. It's obviously a common event and not notifying about it in the article would be nonsense. I started this talk section to avoid an edit war, but common sense is needed in order to reach a consensus. I suggest this sentence:
I don't see a problem with something to that effect. (The status of the race is actually a bit strange. It's not part of the World Tour so it's not part of the TDU. It's registered as a National Event - but doesn't seem to have been affected by the recent crackdown on eligibility of teams that National Events have (i.e. no ProTeams). I don't think ProTeams are obliged to ride but then you would expect some teams not to race or to race with reduced squads but they always seem to race with the quads they start the TDU with.) No problem here Racklever (talk) 15:38, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, it looks like 131 riders finished the Cancer Council Crit, while the TDU proper will have 133. So not exactly the same peloton. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 06:38, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
And I'm not going to edit this or very many 2011 race articles (or else I'd WP:SOFIXIT myself), but can something please be done about the "Overall Favourites" section? "The 2011 Tour Down Under is a very exciting race this year" Um...no? Greipel is German, not Belgian. This section might do well to more point to the fact that this is the first time Greipel and Cavendish have ridden as opponents (and, to my knowledge, the first time they've ridden the same event at all since the 2008 Giro d'Italia). There are other ace/solid sprinters on the start list as well, like Farrar, Davis, Chicchi, the Haedos. Overlinks present as well. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 06:43, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure you know that Bernhard Eisel of HTC (non-finisher) and Tom Leezer of Rabobank (non-starter) were the only exceptions not to take part in the Classic, and the rest were exactly the same peloton of the Tour. You can check here:
If it lacked Leezer, it wasn't exactly the same. That's all I was trying to suggest. I never thought the teams had drastically different squads for the CCHC and the TDU. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 09:54, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jerseys for most aggressive and teams? edit

The classification leadership table suggests there are jerseys awarded for the leader in the teams classification and the most aggressive rider competition. This can't be right, can it? SeveroTC 10:11, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The most aggressive rider has a red race number pinned to his standard jersey. I am not sure about the team prize. Racklever (talk) 10:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
