Johnson is being helped by Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) financially, as they are holding fundraisers to make Johnson competitive.
Originally, this race was seen as a pure toss-up, given that South Dakota is a solid GOP state and his narrow victory over Sen. John Thune, back then a Represenative. However, given the current health situation, it is strongly unlikely that any prominent GOPer will challenge him.

==Democrats==
*Sen. Tim Johnson - Incumbent; Democratic colleagues are raising money for him

==Republican Candidates==
*Gov. Mike Rounds - a popular figure in South Dakota, there was a strong inclination that he might run against Johnson; however, due to the sensitive issue of health, he might choose not to run and continue in his position as the Governor of South Dakota.

Added edit

I added Mike Rounds name to the list so anyone could see he may run. Politics rule 8:55am EST.-4/21/2007.

Deleted edit

A line about "When Republicans polled they did not include Rounds". There is no evidence supporting this. Plus, the sentence implies that all Republicans acted together in polling, rather than a polling firm (whether partisan or not) on behalf of a client (whether political or not). 207.138.153.98 17:26, 6 June 2007 (UTC)revfigReply
