Statistics

Just a quick note, the overall tournament stats are NOT just an average of the averages of the previous rounds. eg. Phil Taylor's average is NOT 105.15 just because of his previous rounds. Obviously, he threw a lot more darts against Jenkins than he did against Nixon, so his overall average will be closer to 102 than to 107. It may seem that way, but I'll use an example from last year's Grand Slam of Darts.

Phil Taylor had averages of 91.64, 104.82 and 97.24 in the group stages. add those three up to equal 293.70, giving an average of 97.90.

In the knockouts, he had 103.17, 99.28, 96.86 and 101.75 add those four up to equal 401.06, giving an average of 100.27 (rounded up).

In that case, the website I have given is also being lazy in working out its tournament averages. I have been looking through the 'net and unfortunately have not yet found anywhere that gives reliable tournament averages, although I will keep looking. Just to give a very simple example: Player X has a 180.00 average throwing 3 darts. He then has a 100.00 average in his next match, where he throws 6 darts. His average is NOT (180.00+100.00)/2=140.00, but rather (180.00*3 + 100.00*6)/9=126.67. Andy4226uk (talk) 09:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

You'll struggle to find a website that'll give a complete analysis of every single game - it'll only be game-by-game. Yeah, I see what you mean with the Player X thing. It's a difficult one to put into play. Cs-wolves (talk) 17:20, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, I have thought of an idea to try and make the statistics more accurate. I think it is best to demonstrate it with an example, so I will use Phil Taylor's tournament so far:

Proposed Formula: (Average Game 1*Legs Game 1)+(Avg Game 2*Legs Game 2)... /(total number of legs).

Therefore we have (107.36*5)+(102.94*9)+(104.51*6)+(97.37*18)/38 = 101.13

Hmm...I'd have to see it for most of the competitors though, because I do remember seeing during the King-Webster game that King had an average for the tournament of around 92 and Webster's was around 90 which is quite similar to what is listed already.
