Can anybody tell me what's the source of this list? 'cause there are many inaccurate but heavily visited sites over there... just to avoid them. --necronudist 13:22, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

To follow up on this very old post, I'm adding some sources here precisely because the online ones are outdated. I'm using the official names. If anyone has a source that clearly states the other names are the official ones you can change it back.

Chile, Bolivia, Peru: controversies

An anonymous user has edited Chilean, Bolivian and Peruan teams providing some interesting links. However there are plenty of sites (e.g. playerhistory.com) who says the contrary, but they can be wrong.

Chile

Here is shown clearly that Espinoza was a GK, Riveros a MF, Coddou and Munoz FWs. Also: Coddou is spelled Coddeau, like in this extract of Historia Total del Futbol Chileno. FIFA site spell him Coddou (but we know this site is full of errors) and don't even mention who's the second GK [1] [2] [3]

Carlos Vidal's entry says Italiano Schwager and from what I have read in Chilean soccer history there is no team with that name. The closest resemblance is Audax Italiano and Lota Schwager. Lota, however came about in 1966 from the merger of Minas Lota and Federico Schwager. They were lower division teams and I have found nothing regarding them in the 1930's era. Bolivia

Here is not clearly stated that Murillo is a GK, we can easily guess it 'cause is name comes just after Bermudez, who was the first GK. FIFA site OBVIOUSLY omit the question [4] [5]

In Bolivia's official records for international matches, Luis Reyes Penaranda is not present in the lineup for the 1930 WC games. The lineup cards for international games going back to 1926 are listed in 'La epopeya del fútbol Boliviano', 1896-1994 by Carlos D. Mesa Gisbert. He may have been an alternate in contention for a spot since he was on the 1929 Universitario champion team. Libro0 (talk) 20:27, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

His name wasn't even listed under players that were capped by the national team. So, according to the above mentioned book, he was not at the tournament. Libro0 (talk) 10:42, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay I decided to look into the Sa?nz controversy. The bad news is that I found stuff. The worse news is that it only adds to the controversy. So here goes: The player index in the back of the book lists the names as Eduardo Sainz and Renato Sainz. Eduardo's stats say he had 6 caps covering the years 26,27,30. While Renato is said to have 1 cap coming in 1930. However the lineup cards which I believe I had mentioned above show something else. I will explain what each match shows.

• Copa Mundial vs Brazil 'Eduardo Sainz' played - no subs are listed on card

I have found another book called 'Bolivia, El Mundo, Y El Futbol' by Dr. Freddy Oporto Lens. This book states that among the selected players was Luis Penaranda, Jorge Balderrama, and Renato Sainz. There is no Eduardo Sainz mentioned. The only Eduardo is Ortiz. It says that Renato is making his debut. This would agree with the player index of the first book above but not with the lineup cards. Renato Sainz is said to have debuted in the 2nd game of the world cup. There was also a newspaper clipping (La Prensa 1926) that said Sains (Eduardo) which makes a new spelling for this player. Also I checked for Murillo and it said that he was a substitute in the first game of which there were five subs made. It is possible he was backup GK but I will have to check further. Also the caps will have to be updated so I will have to recheck that.Libro0 (talk) 23:37, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

USA

I believe Bill O'Brian should be O'Brien and his full name is William Shamus. Born in Neilston, Scotland came to US in 1919. He played for the NY Giants, and NY Nationals. Also M. Slavin should be John Slavin. He was born in Camoustie, Scotland and also played for the Giants and Nationals. Libro0 20:11, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Colin Jose has a book about the American Soccer League (ASL) from 1921-1931. Other sources include Raith Rovers and Hearts sites since John Slavin played for them prior to joining the NY Nationals. Libro0 01:44, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Dušan Marković

Dušan Marković of Yugoslavia is not listed in FIFA.com page about the 1930 FIFA World Cup. There is one Vlastimir Petković instead. I find Petković only one place on Wikipedia, as part of the 1934-35 Yugoslav football championship winning squad What is the source of these squads other than the one at FIFA.com. necronudist asked 10 years ago for sources furter up this site - anyone know ? Bozidar Marković

the Politika newspaper (Yugoslavia), 06-17-1930, page 9, it is clearly mentioned that Bozidar Markovic was the player who traveled to Montevideo and not Dusan Markovic, I would like the people who mention Dusan to show some reference to 1930 where mentions that it was Dusan and Bozidar who traveled.
