COO update edit

A new COO was hired, and I've made the notes. If it seems to unimportant for the article, please remove my paragraph, however it is a large change to the company as the operating/executive position was previously held solely by Brian Scudamore, the company's founder. Probably to focus on his new house painting company? Anyhoo. Disclosure: I am a current employee of 1-800 got junk?, as a driver/navigator.

Dispatch system edit

I'm a current employee at 1-800 got junk. The information on our dispatch system is currently out of date. In most canadian cities we are/have switched from the system listed on this article to a standard consumer GPS unit and Moneris mobile transaction units. I didn't want to edit, I'm new to wiki and not particularly impartial on this subject. Will try and find written verification and provide when possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gkrenz (talkcontribs) 18:31, 17 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Verify tag edit

I added back the tag because the anon who removed it apparently doesn't understand the concept of verifification in the wikipedia sense (or doesn't understand how to use citations). The article must be verified with reliable sources, otherwise the tag stays up. If you need help formating citations, pop me a message on my talk page.--Isotope23 13:09, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Where is the proof this is the world's largest junk removal company? edit

I stongly believe this statement is not correct. Sita, Waste Management Inc and Veolia are much larger waste disposal companies both in terms of turn over, waste handling tonnage and geographical locations. I work in the waste management industry and have made sizeable contributions to this sector of wikipedia. Proof please! --Alex 15:53, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Alex. "World's largest junk removal company" is an unofficial slogan or claim of the company: this is not an assertion made by the article. Justin Eiler 00:37, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
How would it not be the worlds largest junk removal company. They are now even in Austrailia. My dad is the franchise partner in Richmond. I would know. It is a personal junk removel service. They aren't waste disposal companies.--XAM 13:55, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's not for me to prove that they aren't its for the author of this article to demonstrate truth behind the article. I also think that you will find it hard to make the clarification of what is waste and what is "junk"--Alex 15:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's obviously an unofficial slogan. It's just like those cellphone commercials that claim company A has the largest network, while company B claims the same. There is no need for any proof. If this is the company's slogan, then that's that.Vkmitg 23:43, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not in the UK, you would have to be able to justify the claim or else you would be in breach of trading standard laws.--Alex 08:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Name another huge Junk removal comapany.--XAM 13:51, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sita, Waste Management...
Waste Management is not a junk removal company. They take people garbage too. Got Junk will come into your house and take away junk. XAM 01:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also Veolia E.S., FCC (Spanish). I'm not sure you can actually easily differentiate waste from junk, although I understand what you are getting at. Most local authorities in the UK offer the service of collection of bulky waste from the household. Here I think this would be the nearest comparison. Like I said earlier it is not for us to disprove the claims but it is up to the author to justify claims using verifiable independent references. --Alex 15:55, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
One must first understand what is meant by junk. Waste management removes waste which orginates from curb side pickup which includes food waste and small household items. Junk refers to items that are not removed by curb side pickup and items that you can't typically get rid of through your curb side pickup service. This is where 1-800-GOT-JUNK? comes into the picture. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? removes items that you can't get rid of throuh your curb side pick-up, either because you have too much or you have items that are too large or bulky or require demolition or have a time frame that does not fit within your garbage company's schedule. Try getting rid of your old spa and boat or camper or sectional sofa through your curb side pick-up, not to mention your electronic waste such as TV's, computer monitors or personal computers or DVD players. Oh yea and that highrise 20 floor office building cleanout that needs to be done in two weeks. If you have a death in the family and need a home cleaned out, call them. If you are a bank and have a forclosure, call them. If you are empty nesters and are moving, call them. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? provides a high quality personalized service. The reason behind the statement of worlds largest is because no one else in the world provides this service across 242 locations in the Unites States and 40 locations Canada. 1-800-GOT-JUNK? does not remove garbage from curb side pickup and never will. If you compare tonnage alone, of course waste management dwarfs 1-800-GOT-JUNK? So this takes us back to the difference between Junk and typical household waste or garbage. One more side note is 1-800-GOT-JUNK? recycles or donates over 60% of what they pickup. Your curbside garbage service can't make that statement. --75.16.81.77 04:55, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Are you trying to make this all sound like one big advert? LOL --Alex 13:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
There's no need to make this an advertisement. 1-800 got junk? classifies junk as anything unable to be put out for curb pickup. This company does not do 'garbage' hauling. Based on geographic distribution (North America, Australia) they are the largest cohesive company specializing in 'junk' removal. Not an advertisement. When they (we) opperated in North America exclusively, the slogan was "north america's largest junk removal company". In fact, three of the calgary trucks still have that printed on them. Inappropriate Tone & Advertising edit

Edits by 159.18.168.14 have the following problems;

  • Inappropriate Tone. The emphasis throughout is in promoting the company to an end customer. Phrases like "Whether it’s an old sofa or a pile of junk in the garage, 1-800-GOT-JUNK? removes it for you." are just advertising.
  • Use of the first and second person. Do not address the reader "you" or refer to the company as "we".
  • "Where we operate" - Please explain what this extensive directory adds to this encyclopaedia article. It would be ample to give a count of states/cites/whatever without trying to assure the reader that there's one near them. Again, this just looks like advertising.

This Wiki page is nothing more than advertising. Reaching very hard for some sort of relevance on planet Earth to say the least. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:5:A200:9CE:B114:9962:B9C3:3CE6 (talk) 00:30, 12 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think some of the addish may have stuck after any cleanup edits, especially the quotes from the CEO. Thing is, I don't know what to replace them with. Anyone? 108.50.51.25 (talk) 02:08, 20 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

200 million is ridiculous, with the reference being the company website. Every location would have to be doing over 1,250,000 yearly, have 12 units and all be doing the volume of San Francisco ... Company BS
