Svitávka (Blansko District)

Svitávka is a market town in Blansko District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,900 inhabitants.

Svitávka lies approximately 16 kilometres (10 mi) north of Blansko, 34 km (21 mi) north of Brno, and 170 km (110 mi) south-east of Prague.

Administrative parts edit

The village of Sasina is an administrative part of Svitávka.

History edit

The area was populated already in the stone age. The first written mention is from 1284, when King Wenceslaus II of Bohemia approved fortification. In 1583, Rudolf II promoted the village to a market town.[2]
