Founding edit

SARA was initially conceived as an alliance of smaller parties, including the National Freedom Party, African Amalgamated Restorative Movement, and Independent Citizens Movement.[1] Makhubele, while still a representative for COPE, stated that COPE would be part of the alliance, but was later dismissed by COPE, which accused her of lying about COPE's involvement.[2][3]

Election results edit

Municipal elections edit

The party contested its first municipal election in Madibeng in February 2024, finishing fourth out of the four contesting parties, with 1% of the vote.[4]

National and Provincial Elections edit

On 01 March 2024, Makhubele announced that South African Rainbow Alliance had acquired the necessary 40,000 signatures required to contest the national and provincial elections on 29 May 2024. South African Rainbow Alliance will be one of several hundred political parties on the ballot in the May election.[5]

The 2024 general election will allow South African citizens to elect the incoming 400 members of the national assembly, alongside the nine provincial legislatures of South Africa.
