Sonam Yangden Wangchuck

Sonam Yangden Wangchuck (born 9 September 2023) is the third child of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan and his wife, Queen Jetsun Pema. She is the third line to the throne after her brothers Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck and Jigme Ugyen Wangchuck.

Biography edit

On 9 September 2023, the King announced that the Queen had delivered their third child and only daughter at the Lingkana Palace.[1] The baby's name, Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, was announced on 9 December 2023.[2]

Sonam is a Bhutanese name meaning merit, longevity and good fortune. The name Yangden (or Yangdon), meaning precious jewel, signifies prosperity and well-being.[3]

The princess accompanied her parents and siblings on the state visit to Bangladesh that took place in March 2024.[4][5]
