Ringwood School (opened in 1959) is an 11-19 National Teaching Academy. The school is situated in Ringwood, Hampshire, and currently has over 1600 students. It was a specialist Language College but has successfully become an Academy in April 2011 and gained National Teaching School status in July 2011.
The Head teacher Chris Edwards priority is creating a learning centred community with personalising learning at the heart of school improvement. Working in partnership is central to the culture of the school, enabling colleagues and students to network at all levels sharing best practice.
The school was one of the first 100 designated a Teaching School in united kingdom in July 2011. Chris Edwards, headteacher, is an L.L.E. and accredited by the National College to deliver school to school support. Chris is committed to the teaching school philosophy and is actively involved in supporting the professional development of colleagues at all levels. Chris leads the Schools Network South East Regional Heads Forum and represents the region on the National Headteacher Steering Group.
The school gained the ‘Eco-schools Green Flag Award’ in 2006, 2008 and 2010. This led to being designated as one of only 36 schools across the country to ‘Lead Sustainable development’ by the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) in 2008. The school has recently applied for Ambassador Status for Sustainability.
The school is located in the historic market town of Ringwood and is a lively community situated close to the New Forest National Park and the Dorset World Heritage Coastline. The school lies at the heart of its community including villages in the surrounding area.
The school was recognised by Ofsted as ‘outstanding overall’ and ‘outstanding in its Sixth Form provision’ in November 2008.
