Pulivendula is a town, mandal and municipality in YSR district, Andhra Pradesh, India.[1]

Pulivendula, the headquarters of the taluk, is situated on the road from Kadiri to Muddanur, being twenty-seven miles north of Kadiri and twenty-three miles south of Muddanur railway station. It is one of the fastest developing town in the district with a population of more than 1,00,000. This is the most popular town in YSR district and state as well for its political background.

The climate is temperate and the land is fertile. Commercial crops like sunflower, ground nuts, banana, sweet lemon and lime are grown in surrounding villages. Bananas and sweet lemons are exported to the states of Assam, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The town's main drinking water resource is Chitravati Dam, Parnapalli.

Major features

It is a fast-developing town in the district, with a population of more than 1,00,000. This is the most popular town in Kadapa district and state as well for its political background.

Late chief minister Dr. Y. S. Rajasekharreddy was elected 6 times MLA from Pulivendula.

Y. S. Jagan Mohanreddy m.p. kadapa & president of YSR Congress party was key role to establish new companies in Pulivendula area

C. C. Reddy, founder of Visu Consultants, who holds a key role in Andhra Pradesh government in getting foreign investments, hails from this town.

Ranganatha temple, which was built by kings of Vijaya nagara Dynasty), Bhavani gudi, Saibaba Temple, Ammavarisala and Mitta Malleswara Swamy Temple are the main temples. [{Ghudu saheb Dastagir saheb House}] a famous singer and radio artist and close aide to Y.S. Raja Reddy. {Jamia Masjid.}

Small and medium industries, like textile industries, have been established in the town along with the Indira Gandhi Institute for Agricultural Research and JNTUA College of Engineering, Pulivendula.

There have been more new projects started, like school and hostel for the poor people. Tourist spots like Silparamam have been built in outer ring road. One of the prestigious projects to solve the water problem in surrounding areas is Chitravathi Balancing Reservoir Right main Canal (Lingala Canal), having a length of 56.00 km starting from Parnapalli Chitravathi Dam to Vemula village serving 59,400 acres ayacut of irrigation facilities and 29 villages are benefited. This project has started on 2004 and planned to complete by 2011. This project was done by one of the leading infrastructure company in India MAYTAS INFRA LTD. now changed as IL&FS Engineering Services; the cost of the project is 320 crores. The project office located in Ayyavarithota near Ippatla village (7 km from Pulivendula towards Parnapalli).

The film stars Padma Nabham, famous comedian (Simhadripuram) B.Nagi Reddy (Yeddulayyagari Kottapalli) are from this town. Nagi Reddy also set up Vijaya Studios in Chennai. He also established the children's magazine Chandamama. B. N. Reddy, who started vahini films and studio at Chennai, is from this place.

Nearest locations of attraction are Ranganatha Swami Temple, well known for tirunala, Namalagundu, pilgrim centre of Lord Shiva, Achavelli Gangamma Temple is a famous temple in the town, about 11 km from town, Sangameswara Temple in Animela, Ambaka Palli Aavula Swami 13 kilometers from pulivendula, Triveni Sangamam, Mopuri Bhairaveshwara Temple in Kondreddy Palli, which is located on the top of the hill constructed by Vijaya Nagara Kings. Mopuri Bhairaveshwara Temple is well known for the "Reddy" community called "Donthi Reddy" [(Donthi Reddy Eswar Reddy)] and their hereditary belongs to nearby villages like "Gotur"... The exact location of this Vijaya Nagara Kings temple is at Nalla Cheruvu Palli. Another nearby village is Satharam.

Uranium mining

On August 23, 2007, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval for setting up of a uranium mine and processing plant at Mabbuchintalapalli-Tummalapalle, about 15 km south of Pulivendula, at a total cost of 11.06 billion rupees ($269.9 million). The plant will be set up by the Uranium Corporation of India. Foundation stone was laid on 20 November 2007 by Late Dr Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy garu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The mine is likely to be commissioned within 30 months and the processing plant in 36 months.[3][4]

Huge deposits of natural uranium, which promises to be one of the top 20 of the world's reserves, have been found in the Tummalapalle belt in the southern part of the Kadapa basin in Andhra Pradesh in March 2011.

The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) of India, which explores uranium in the country, has so far discovered 44,000 tonnes of natural uranium (U3O8) in just 15 line km of the 160-km long belt.
