1847 – The Railway Clearing House in England recommends that Greenwich Mean Time be adopted as the standard time for all railways in the United Kingdom.^[1]
1873 – Western Counties Railway holds official groundbreaking ceremonies at Lovitt's Wharf, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, Canada.^[2]
1883 – Grand Trunk Railway fully acquires the Midland Railway of Canada.^[3]

1902 – Ottawa, Northern and Western Railway acquires the Pontiac and Pacific Junction Railway.^[4]
1904 – New Haven Railroad acquires control of Worcester and Blackstone Valley Street Railway.^[5]
1928 – Canadian Premier John Bracken drives the last spike on Canadian National Railway's line between Flin Flon and Cranberry Portage, Manitoba.^[6]
1994 – New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority begins construction on the 63^rd Street Connector which connects the 63^rd Street Tunnel to the Queens Boulevard Line.^[7]
1995 – Burlington Northern Railroad and Santa Fe Railroad merge to form Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.^[8]
