- 1887 – Cotton Belt Railroad predecessor Paragould and Buffalo Island Railway, in Arkansas, is incorporated.[1]
- 1887 – The New York and Northern Railway (a predecessor name for the New York and Putnam Railroad) emerges from reorganization after foreclosure the previous July.
- 1897 – The Chicago 'L' begins using the downtown loop.[2]
20th century edit
- 1933 – London, Midland and Scottish Railway 4-6-0 Royal Scot number 6152 (of the LMS Royal Scot Class locomotives) departs the Century of Progress Exhibition in Chicago, bound for Vancouver, British Columbia.[3]
- 1962 – Colorado and Southern Railway 2-8-0 number 641 pulls the last steam locomotive-operated regular daily service revenue train on a standard gauge railroad in the United States when it pulls a train from Leadville to Climax, Colorado.[4]
- 1987 – Soo Line Railroad sells 2,002 miles (3,222 km) of track to the newly formed Wisconsin Central.[4]

- 2002 – The prototype AVE Class 102 train (later used by track authority ADIF as test train Class 330) reaches speeds of 362 km/h (225 mph) during test runs.[5]
- 2014 – The Shiraz Metro in Iran is officially opened with the first 10.5-kilometre long (6.5 mi) section that includes eight stations connecting Ehsan to Namazi.[6]
