- 1832 - The HMS Beagle, carrying Charles Darwin on its second voyage, departed from Punta Alta, Argentina to Monte Hermoso. There Darwin found small rodent fossils.
- 1941 - Atílio Munari died in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
