The act of long distance walking is integral to his artistic creation.[2] We Make the Path by Walking (self-published, 2013) is a collection of landscape photographs made on walking trips through rural Spain, Portugal, and France. In total Gaffney walked more than 3,500 kilometres.[5][6] Stray and Perigee, both made in forests, were photographed entirely by the light of the moon.[7]
