Padampur is a city and a municipality in Ganganagar district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The city was named after Royal family of Bikaner member Rajkumar 'PADAM' Singh, son of Raja 'KARAN' Singh 1631-1669. Most of the people staying in Padampur are people from Punjab who initially came after 1927 when the ganga canal was established and there was abundance of land and many other habitants of Padampur are those who relocated after Sino-India War of 1962 and Indo-Pak war of 1965 and they have settled here after that.
Geography
Padampur is located at 29°41′N 73°37′E / 29.68°N 73.62°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 165 metres (541 feet). padampur is located in northern-western part of Ganganagar district. There is no direct railway link to this destination. The nearby main railway station is in Sriganganagar which is approx a distance of 40 km and connected by a 4 lane highway. There is 132 KV Grid substation which is being upgraded to 220 KV near by in village 27 BB. The public transport system of Rajasthan Government Provides basic transportation facility to the people.
Demographics
Padampur had a population of about 25000.[2] Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Padampur has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%.
The demographics of Padampur are evidence of a large and ethnically diverse people and families. The area is mostly inhabited by Hindus and Sikhs. Major languages spoken are Marwari and Hindi. The area continues to be the gateway for legal work for the near by villages. As of 2012 the area has been categorized in 20 wards circle headed by ward member of that area selected by the residents of the ward.
Economy
After the initiation of the Gang canal the main occupation of near by villages is agriculture and the same sets the base of the economy of the town. The main crops are wheat, mustard and cotton. Other crops includes guar, bajra, sugar cane and grams. In recent years, kinnow (a hybrid citrus fruit from "orange") has also gained its prominence in farmers. The industries in the city are mostly based on agriculture. The People of the town are involved in their family business.
Climate
The climate of Padampur varies to extreme limits. The average temperature in summer reaches to around 41° Celsius and the same in winters is around 26°C. The temperature shots up to 50° in June .The average annual rainfall is only 200 mm (7.9 in). Short rainfall and lack of irrigation affect the income of farmers of the villages of Padampur.
