As of the census of 2000, there were 299 people, 126 households, and 82 families residing in the city. The population density was 362.6 people per square mile (140.8/km²). There were 140 housing units at an average density of 169.8 per square mile (65.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 37.46% White and 62.54% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.67% of the population.
There were 126 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% were married couples living together, 19.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 31.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
