Newry High School is a secondary school in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, UK. It is a controlled, co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18.[1]

The origins of the present day Newry High School can be traced to the end of the 19th century, when a group of local businessmen and clergy established the Newry Intermediate School in 1896. The school was located on Hill Street.[2]

In 1948, the school changed its name to Newry Grammar School and moved to a new site on Ashgrove Road.

In 1966/1967, the school changed its name again to Newry High School and became a co-educational secondary school.[3]

Curriculum edit

The school follows the Northern Ireland Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4.[4]

The school has a learning support centre that offers individualised programmes for students who need extra assistance.[5]

Extracurricular activities edit

The school offers a variety of extracurricular activities. Activities include sports clubs, music groups, drama productions, art exhibitions, debating societies, charity events, educational trips and exchange programmes.[6]
