Mayyur Girotra is an Indian fashion designer and couturier. He lives between Delhi and New York and is known for his bridal and festive wear.[1] He launched his label in 2009, named Mayyur Girotra label.[2]

Early life and career edit
Mayyur was born into a Punjabi family in the capital city of India, Delhi, and grew up there. He graduated from Thames Valley University. His mother owned a boutique and worked with artisans for her creations. Mayyur observed her work and developed a passion for becoming a fashion designer from a young age.[3] However, his parents wanted him to pursue a career in business or finance.[4] Mayyur worked in wealth management and investment banking in Dubai for 10 years. In 2009, he left his job to open his own fashion house,[1] which has two sub-brands: luxury prêt and couture.[5][6] Initially, he started with capsule collections and private showcases with the help of his mother, aunts, and their connections. Mayyur first opened a store in New Delhi, then in Dubai[2][7] and Mumbai in 2014.[8] The brand further expanded its operations to the US, with stores in New York, New Jersey, and San Francisco.[1][9] Mayyur has designed outfits for many celebrities such as Sara Ali Khan, Sridevi, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, Shilpa Shetty, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor, Virat Kohli, Badshah,[10] among others.[11][7][12]
Fashion shows and events edit
Mayyur participated in several fashion shows and events, both domestically and internationally, which included appearances at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014, and Dubai Fashion Week. He was commissioned by Maharaja Narendra Singh, the son-in-law of the late H H Maharaja Bhawani Singh of Jaipur, to revamp the uniforms of the Royal Polo Team of India and to design casual wear for the players.[13]
Mayyur was one of the fourteen Indian designers chosen to exhibit their creations at the inaugural French European Indian Fashion Week (FEIFW) held in 2016. The venue for this event was the Eiffel Tower in Paris, where Mayyur introduced his collection, Jaisalmer. Girotra also presented his collection, Zamani, at the inaugural South Asian New York Fashion Week (SANYFW).[14][15][16][17]
In June 2023, Mayyur launched his luxury pret collection, AIKYA,[18] during New York Pride in collaboration with Pride at Google and Indus Google Network.[19][20] AIKYA merges western silhouettes with Indian embroidery and techniques, symbolizing unity.[21]
