Kriti Singh Debbarma (born June 3, 1971), is a Tripuri princess from the Manikya Royal Family of Tripura. She is the joint candidate of Tipra Motha Party and BJP from Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency for the 2024 Indian general election.[1][2]

Early life and education edit
Kriti Debbarma was born on 3rd June 1971 in Aguli (Agartala) to Tripura King Maharaja Kirit Bikram Manikya and Bhibu Kumari Devi. She is the middle of the three siblings. Her elder sister is Pragya Debbarma and her younger brother is the current titular King of Tripura Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma.[3][4]
Kriti did her schooling from Shillong- based Loreto Convent and later had a diploma course on Environmental Education and Management Appreciation Programme for Voluntary Agencies and Senior Management & Rural Development Course in Gujarat. She remained an Animal Welfare Officer at Shillong for two years since 1992.
Early career edit
She was involved with different NGOs for creating awareness about environmental issues and sustainable development in the northeast region. She also served as an agriculturalist in Madhya Pradesh with focus on horticulture, organic farming, breeding and preserving indigenous cattle breeds.[5]
Political career edit
Debbarma made brief appearance alongside his brother Pradyot Manikya since 2021. After his younger brother founded Tipra Motha Party, Kriti has participated in the Greater Tipraland Movement.[6]
Controversy edit
The eligibility of her as a candidate for the ST-reserved seat has been questioned by opposition parties due to her current residency in Chhattisgarh. According to records from the Election Commission of India, she contested as an independent candidate in the 2018 Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election from the Kawardha constituency under the name "Kriti Devi Singh". However, when filing nomination papers for the East constituency in Tripura, she used the name "Kriti Singh Debbarma".[7][8][9]
