Production edit

The film featured thirty-six newcomers including Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry's son Raja.[3][2] The heroine was renamed Ishana by Teja after being unnamed by her family due to astrological reasons.[3] Initially Chennai-based Ilaiyaraaja was to compose the music but after Teja fell sick and couldn't shift between cities, he opted for Hyderabad-based Chakri.[1] The film was shot in sixty days in Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Rajasthan.[3] The film was partially reshot in Tamil as Manase Manase, but that version was never released.[4]

Reception edit

The film was released on 26 October 2008.[1] A critic from Rediff.com rated the film two-and-a-half out of five stars and wrote that "Director Teja seems to have got embroiled in the stereotypical pattern of filmmaking. Gone is the freshness associated with his films (as his earlier films Chitram and Jayam reflect). One can't help but wonder if he has lost his touch".[5] A critic from IANS rated the film one out of five and wrote that "Keka is a movie three years too late".[6] A critic from 123telugu wrote that "Director Teja knows how to make love stories. He only knows how to make love stories. And there are only so many love stories he can make. That is his real problem. He keeps trying to pour his old wine into newer and better bottles all the time, but it does not really help".[2] A critic from Indiaglitz rated the film zero out of five and wrote that "In short, Teja's Keka is one more dud that desperately fails to impress. It just reaps an ultimatum for the creative director".[7]
