      Rated ninth among defensive ends by ESPN.com after playing at Jones High School. Played both defensive end and linebacker in high school. During his senior year, had 8.0 sacks, 15 tackles and four fumble recoveries. As a junior, he collected 116 tackles, including 20 for a loss, and totaled 10 sacks. Also played basketball in high school and led Jones to the Class 3A state title.

      Jaye Howard (born December 20, 1988) is an American football defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks.[1]

      College career

      Played in 45 games as a Gator, making 25 starts with 131 tackles (80 solo), 25.5 tackles for loss, 11.0 quarterback sacks, two pass breakups and three fumble recoveries during his time at UF. Senior: Started all 13 games at defensive tackle in his senior season. Finished tied for second on the team with 10.0 tackles for loss, totaling a team-best 64 yards, and 5.5sacks, for a team-high 50 yards. Tied for the team lead with four QB hurries, and tops on the Gators with two fumble recoveries, including a 2-yard touchdown return against Kentucky. Fourth on the team with 65 tackles on the year. Voted Team Captain by his teammates. Had four total tackles in the season opener, with 1.5 tackles for a loss and a 12-yard sack, to earn him the first SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honor of the year. Junior: Appeared in 11 games, starting eight and missing Georgia and Vanderbilt with a right ankle sprain. Started at defensive tackle vs. Miami University, USF, LSU and Penn State. Started at defensive end in Florida’s victories over Tennessee and Kentucky, at Alabama and vs. Mississippi State. Wore jersey number 62 at Alabama in tribute to former Gators player Lamar Abel, a former walk-on who was part of the 2008 Florida National Championship team. Abel died on May 22, 2010. Had 29 tackles on the season with 10.0 tackles for loss. Sophomore: Saw time in 12 games for the Gators during his redshirt sophomore campaign, including four starts versus Charleston Southern, Tennessee, FIU and FSU. Notched 29 tackles, 18 solo, 11 assisted, 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks in 2009. Led the Florida defense, for the second time in 2009, with a career-high 10 tackles in the 2009 SEC Championship Game versus Alabama. Freshman: Played in nine of UF’s games during the season. Recorded eight tackles (six solo), 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery. Played a role in Florida’s 2008 SEC Championship Title, recording two tackles in the 31-20 win over Alabama.
