Hassan–Bangalore section

The KSR Bengaluru-Hassan section belongs to Bengaluru division of South Western Railway Zone, connecting the cities of Bengaluru and Hassan. This line was the dream project of the Nation's Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which was open to the Gen. Public in Mar 2017, with the inaugural train being the 22679 Yeshwantpur-Hassan Intercity Express.[1] This line is a Straight and direct line connecting the 2 cities, thus forming a direct rail link from Bengaluru to Mangaluru as well, as this line has No reversals. Earlier, there were only 2 routes to Mangaluru via Hassan - one is a 12-hour route via Ramanagara-Mysuru-Holenarasipura, which has 2 Reversals (at Mysuru and Hassan) and other via Tumakuru-Arsikere, which has 1 Reversal (at Arsikere) and consumes 10.5-11 hours. This direct route that passes via Yediyur, with No reversals and being significantly shorter compared to the other two, consumes only 9 hrs and hence is meant to save time between the 2 cities.
