Eightcubed is a Canadian electronic music artist and producer from Toronto. His first album "Simple Dance" was released in 2006 by his own record label Abstract Core Records; critics described his sound as "Aphex Twin meets a kindergarten on acid." [1] In 2008 "Heart Invaders" [2] was released with a music video directed by computer animator Dan Swan and nationally aired on MuchMusic throughout 2008 to 2011.[3] In 2009 he released "City Life" an EP that received popular acclaim for its low-fi retro futuristic sound, notably for the electropunk track "Promise Me" and chiptune track "The Island of Purple Waterfall".[4] Another music video for the glo-fi single "Enter Light" followed in 2011 with animation by Andrea Simone.[5] In a Detroit radio interview Eightcubed explains the importance of storytelling and artificial intelligence in his music.[6] He has been featured in Now Magazine,[7]RCRD LBL and independent blogs and has received charted radio play on college stations across North America.[8][9][10][11]
Musical style
Eightcubed's musical style has been described as "mesmerizing, strangely addictive, innovative, retro-futuristic and whimsical". His music "has an icy starkness to it with austerity layered over with waves of synthesizer that create lift and sparks of life...electronica hypnotism, with more of an underground techno-style". [12] Eightcubed's ability to jump around electronic genres as both a performer and producer is common and most noted with his later free EP releases "City Life" in 2009 which took to electropunk and italo disco influences and "High Arrrt" in 2011 which was heavy in chiptune and mainstream pop music elements.
