Draft:Zhala Bayramova

  • Comment: Two issues with the draft. Firstly, the tone isn't quite right. The Wikipedia voice should not assert anything, but there are several contentious statements throughout, such as "Their personal photos have been spread online in a smear campaign", and "but the request was ignored and Zhala Bayramova was subject to harassment from the election committee instead". The treatment of Zhala is genuinely horrific but Wikipedia needs to stay neutral.
Secondly, the sources seem to mostly be trivial mentions or interviews, neither of which confer notability under WP:NPERSON. I'd like to see some secondary sources that offer analysis/interpretation that are not interviews. Qcne (talk) 09:57, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

According to them the government used the pandemic and the curfew to suppress the opposition voices, arrest journalists and activists, and decimate the civil society.[11][12]

Election observer edit

Zhala Bayramova was an election observer during the 2020 early parliamentary election in Azerbaijan. The election process was marred by fraud and violence.[13] Zhala Bayramova was physically assaulted at one of the polling stations by a by-stander for filming the ongoing voter fraud.[14] Their face was scratched, they were punched in the head and dragged on the floor by their hair. As a result of the assault they suffered a concussion and multiple bruises.[13] The head of the election committee called for criminal investigation against Zhala Bayramova for filming in the public space.[15] They were refused admission to a private hospital due to the political nature of the incident.[16]

This case brought a lot of attention to the electoral process and gained a lot of public resonance in Azerbaijan.[17][18][19][20] Several NGOs sent a formal request to the president Ilham Aliyev to investigate the incident,[21] but the request was ignored and Zhala Bayramova was subject to harassment from the election committee instead.[15]

Feminist movement edit

In 2021 Zhala Bayramova took part in the organization of the feminist movement protests.[22] They, together with other activists, were detained in violation of their freedom of assembly.[23][24] Zhala Bayramova was beaten up, tortured and sexually assaulted by the police while being dragged to the police department.[25][26]

Since 2021 Zhala Bayramova lived in Sweden, where they are studying law at Lund University with SI scholarship.

In July 2023, Zhala Bayramova's father Gubad Ibadoghlu was arrested in Azerbaijan on fabricated charges[34][35] and they have been working on his case, advocating for his release. Their personal photos have been spread online in a smear campaign.[32][36]
