WordDB is an online dictionary website and app, created in 2016 to allow users to search for definitions, synonyms, antonyms and rhymes in the English language. The website has gained popularity among linguists, writers, educators, and language enthusiasts for its comprehensive collection of definitions, rhymes and usage examples.

History edit

WordDB was founded as a rhyming dictionary originally branded as RhymeDB in 2014 for poets and songwriters, and in 2016 a dictionary and thesaurus were added. The project was born out of a desire to create an extensive, user-friendly resource that could assist in the understanding and appreciation of the English language. WordDB also has a PWA app for iOS,[1] Android,[2].

Features edit

The website offers several key features:

Extensive Dictionary: Includes definitions, pronunciations, synonyms, and antonyms.
Rhyme Explorer: Provides rhyming words ranked by an algorithm of phoneme sets, lexical stress, syllables and word popularity.
Interactive Learning Tools: Provides the highest scoring words which can be made from a predefined set of letters for popular word based games such as Scrabble, Words With Friends and Wordfeud.

Noteable Users edit

During a 2021 Twitter thread[3], British author Catherine Emmett[4] discovered RhymeDB when asked if she uses the website to help with her writing. Catherine responded to a follower with: "You just ROCKED MY WORLD".
Catherine Emmett was praised[5] by English professional footballer Beth Mead for her children's book "Sammy Striker and the Football Cup".
