Vithal Somanna Halagekar is an Bharatiya Janta Party politician from Khanapur, Karnataka. He is also an MLA from Khanapur, Karnataka Assembly constituency[1]. He is a state-level politician who represents Khanapur constituency.

In 2013, he was defeated by Arvind Chandrakant Patil of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti.

In 2018, he was defeated by Anjali Nimbalkar of Indian National Congress. Anjali got a total of 36,649 votes while he stood second with 31,516 votes.[2][3]

In 2023, Vithal Halagekar with the support of Arvind Chandrakant Patil got elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Khanapur, Karnataka Assembly constituency seat as an candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party by defeating Anjali Nimbalkar of Indian National Congress. Vithal Halagekar secured 91834 votes which is 57.04% of the total votes in Khanapur (Vidhana Sabha constituency) whereas Anjali Nimbalkar secured 37205 votes which is 23.11% of the total votes, Vithal Halagekar won the election with a huge lead of 54629 votes.

Vithal Somanna Halagekar was born on 07 January 1963. He served as a Teacher in Garlgunji Village for 30 years. He is the founder and President of Shri. Mahalakshmi Group, Topinkatti, Khanapur. He is the founder and President of Shantiniketan Public School[4], Khanapur and the Chairperson of Laila sugar Factory[5] and many more.

In 2018 Vithal Halagekar firstly claimed the BJP ticket and contested election representing BJP from the Khanapur constituency, But unsuccessfully he was defeated by Anjali Nimbalkar of Indian National Congress.

In 2023, he got elected to the Karnataka state assembly from Khanapur Vidhana Sabha seat as an candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party by defeating Anjali Nimbalkar of INC. He secured 91834 of the total votes in Khanapur (Vidhana Sabha constituency) whereas Anjali Nimbalkar secured 37205 votes.
