Development edit

In March 2022, Marvel Studios was revealed to be developing a project featuring the character Richard Rider / Nova, with Sabir Pirzada writing.[1] Pirzada previously served as a writer on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Disney+ series Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel.[1][2] It was unclear at that time whether the project was a series or film, but Justin Kroll of Deadline Hollywood reported that it was likely to be a Disney+ limited series.[1][3] Earlier in the month, Production Weekly had included a space-centered Marvel Comics television series for Disney+ in their report of upcoming projects in development,[4][5] believed to be the Nova project by writers at ComicBook.com;[6][3] Production Weekly later confirmed the untitled series was the Nova project.[7] Development of the series had slowed down by February 2023, when Disney and Marvel Studios were re-evaluating their content output and costs.[8] Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed in March 2024 that a Nova project was in early development and said he was aiming to develop it as a series.[9] Kevin Feige and Pirzada will produce the series.[1][7]

Release edit

The series will be released on Disney+.[7]
