History edit

In the 1820s, the Talxe branch of the Marehan moved southwards, settling in areas like Somalia's South West State, Jubaland, and the Northern Frontier District of Kenya. Their presence along the Juba River's eastern side led to friction and battles with the western Oromo tribes. During their territorial expansion, the Talxe clashed with both British and Ethiopian forces, extending their domain to regions including Wajir, Garissa, Bangali, and down to Kismayo, Jamame, and Badhadhe. They stood firm against colonial rule, particularly defying British control in Kenya's Northern Frontier District. As a result of their resistance against colonial incursions, the Talxe sub-clan, along with the larger Marehan, faced punitive measures from colonial authorities. These reprisals included political marginalization in the regions where they were settled, effectively excluding them from representation. In addition to their resistance efforts, the Talxe held significant clout within Marehan's traditional leadership in Jubaland, where they were recognized as the Ugaas, or traditional leaders, from 1820 to 1930, underscoring their prominent role in the area's governance during that period.
