Story Mapping is the creation of alternative stories over time via a map and textbox using dialogue to personify countries, done typically through YouTube videos. Popular types of fictional mapping series include 'Alternate History/Future of the World' series, as well as 'Alternate History/Future of Europe'.

The concept of fictional story mapping began in the late 2000s when a YouTuber by the name of MervueMeringue released the first piece of a fictional mapping video on July 7, 2008. Since then, the fictional mapping community has branched out to include hundreds of active mappers on YouTube, including Kyiv Mapping.

Visual Variables edit

With the growth in the popularity of fictional mapping, visuals such as maps and textboxes have become more graphically advanced as well. YouTube mapping series thumbnails have also changed as more visual concepts come into play.
