Social media has played a major role in the 2024 United States presidential election. The expanded utilization of online media channels among candidates in the 2016 and 2020 elections continued as both Democratic and Republican candidates attempted to build an online base.

Former president Donald Trump, notorious for his social media use during his political campaigns and throughout his presidency, had many of his social media accounts suspended as a result of his rhetoric surrounding the January 6 United States Capitol attack, with many sites citing violations of policies against inciting violence or spreading election misinformation. These included major platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, the latter of which was his most primarily used account, amassing an audience of over 88.9 million followers at the time of his suspension.
