SESC 24 de Maio Cultural Centre, designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha and MMBB Arquitetos, is a social and cultural hub in São Paulo, Brazil. This cultural center is a part of the SESC (Serviço Social do Comércio) network, established in 1946 in Rio de Janeiro by private businesses, initially to provide healthcare and subsequently expanding to include cultural and recreational activities.^[1]^[2]^[3] Renovations began in 2009.^[4]

Architecture and Design edit

The cultural center, situated in São Paulo’s commercial district, was originally built as the Mesbla department store. Its transformation into a cultural center saw the innovative use of the building's existing concrete armature, supplemented by a new service tower and a freestanding interior tower. The architectural design includes a full-height atrium, double-height spaces for exhibitions and sports halls, and a theater in the basement.^[1]^[2]
