Robin Hilton is a longtime producer, reporter and host for NPR. He's also a composer whose original scores have appeared in films, podcasts, radio and other projects. He's the host of All Songs Considered and helped start the Tiny Desk concert series, including naming it,[1] in 2008, with Bob Boilen and Stephen Thompson. Hilton has since produced performances at the Desk by Harry Styles, Dodie, Chance The Rapper, Sharon Van Etten, Steve Martin and more.
Born and raised in rural Kansas, Hilton graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and spent nearly a decade working as a hard-news reporter for two NPR member stations, KANU in Lawrence, KS and WUGA in Athens, GA. He stepped away from public radio for a period when he moved to Japan in 1996,[2] where he lived and worked for three years. After returning to the states, he started Small Good Thing Productions with longtime friend, and then public radio producer, Steve Lickteig, to produce longform radio documentaries. It's since evolved into a podcast consulting company.
Hilton returned to NPR when he accepted a position as the assistant producer for All Songs Considered in 2001,[3] an online music program created by NPR's Bob Boilen. He became the co-host in 2008. Hilton began hosting the New Music Friday podcast in January, 2018 and continued co-hosting All Songs Considered until the end of that year. He became the main host of All Songs Considered following Bob Boilen's retirement in October, 2023.[4]
