The Red Death is the main antagonist of DreamWorks’ 19th full-length animated feature film How to Train Your Dragon, based on the original book of the same name, and the first instalment of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.[1]

Early Life edit
Hundreds of years before the events of the film, the Red Death had took over Dragon Island and thus took control of thousands of dragons that were there. It went into the centre of the island's volcano to hibernate and had its smaller dragon subordinates bring food to it, if the dragons had failed to bring food for it, they would be eaten themselves. This process continued on for hundreds of years.[1]
Fight against the Berkians and Demise edit
When Berkians came to Berk, the Red Death saw them as a good source of food and ordered the dragons to raid Berk constantly for food and livestock that were present there. This prompted a generations-long war between dragons and Vikings, without the Vikings truly knowing the cause of the issue. During one of its meals, where Toothless, Hiccup and Astrid were at the Red Death's nest, the Red Death had eaten up a Gronckle that only gave it a very small fish in saliva and which caused it to rise up to eat the dragon alive.[2]
It then sensed the presence of humans in the nest and tried to eat them but thanks to one of the Red Death's former minions, Toothless, it missed them and caught a Zippleback instead. Eventually, the Berkians had captured Toothless where he would lead them to the Red Death's nest on Dragon Island. The Vikings caused all the dragons to run away from the Red Death which caused it to emerge from the nest and do the battle by itself. It had set the ships on fire and tried to kill as many Vikings as it could before Hiccup and the Dragon Riders showed up after a fireball was struck on the Red Death's head. Astrid and the other teens distracted the Red Death long enough for Hiccup to free Toothless and rode him into battle. Hiccup and Toothless then managed to team up together and aggravate the Red Death to fly as well as chase after them.[2]
They then lured the giant dragon into a cloud bank where it couldn't see them and began relentlessly bombarding its wings. Enraged from its wings being bombarded, it then tried to fill the entire cloud bank with flames, which results in Toothless' prosthetic tail fin catching fire. It then dove after them and tried to light them on fire while they were diving. However, Toothless eventually shot a plasma blast down the Red Death's throat, igniting the gas that were still in its mouth alight. Upon noticing the ground rapidly approaching, the Red Death tried to spread its wings to slow its descent, but they ripped apart in the process by Toothless' plasma blasts. It then slammed into the ground at full speed, which had caused a massive explosion that took its life.[2]
However, as its body sank into the flames, its clubbed tail knocked Hiccup into the inferno, causing Hiccup to lose a leg.[2]

This ultimate monster, seen pursuing Toothless and Hiccup, is the most vicious. According to legend, it lives 2,000 years and, before it dies, lays 3,000 eggs. The hatchlings fight each other to the death, a process that can take up to 100 years, until only one survives.
All dragons have a blind spot. Except this one. That is one reason we gave him six eyes instead of two. The other reason is that we wanted him to be just generally upsetting. This one is our Godzilla.
