The Ottoman-Bosnian wars were a series of military conflicts involving The Ottomans and the medieval Bosnian state and later the Bosniak rebels that started in 1388 and de facto ended in 1850 when Omer Pasha Latas massacred the rebelling Bosniak nobility.

Origins edit

In the 14th century the Ottoman Empire was significantly expanding into the Balkans, conquering much of Byzantium, Bulgaria and Serbia. The first military encounter between the Bosnian and Turkish army was in 1388, in a small fortified town in Eastern Herzegovina called Bileća where the Bosnian army led by Vlatko Vuković defeated the much more powerful Ottoman army led by Lala Sahin Pasha.[1] The following year, Bosnia alongside many other European countries allied together to stop the Ottoman Army in Kosovo.[2] The Ottomans would activly raid and attack Bosnia during the 15th century up until their invasion in 1459 where they fully annexed the domains of the Bosnian King in 1463, the Bosnian King Stjepan Tomašević was executed in Ključ the same year.[3]
