The National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) is a government medical education institution and hospital in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. It specializes in providing specialized care for patients suffering from kidney and urinary tract diseases. NIKDU offers various medical services, from primary healthcare for kidney patients to advanced treatments like hemodialysis (dialysis) for blood purification and care for patients with end-stage renal failure or kidney malfunction.[1][2]

The plan for the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) was conceived in 1992 and approved by the government in 1995. The institute was formally inaugurated in 2001, and its hospital operations began in 2003. By the end of 2003, all staff positions were filled, and around 2005, the institution received its revenue transfer from the Ministry of Establishment. The institution celebrated its first World Kidney Day in 2006.[3]
