Cosplayer in 2022

Minato Aqua (Japanese: 湊あくあ) is a Japanese VTuber.[1] Having made her debut in 2018 as part of the second generation of Hololive Production acts,[2] she assumes the character of Aqua, a purple-haired girl dressed in marine-themed maid attire.[3] The visual design was created by the freelance illustrator Gaou.[4] Her content is oriented towards gaming,[5] with her Apex Legends gameplay receiving particular attention.[6][7] In January 2021, she became the 5th Hololive member and 8th VTuber overall to reach 1 million subscribers.[8] According to Crunchyroll in 2022, she is "one of hololive's superstars".[3]

In 2022, Hololive published Aquarium, a dating visual novel developed by Entergram; the release was limited to consoles.[9][10] The game features Aqua alongside VTuber characters Shirakami Fubuki and Houshou Marine.[11] For her Aquarium appearance, Minato Aqua won the 2022 Famitsu Award in the "Best Actor" category.[12] The PC version, with English language support, was announced for late 2023.[3][13] A sequel was announced in 2024.[14]

In August 2023, a Minato Aqua song was released in collaboration with the Japanese Vocaloid group HoneyWorks.[15] In 2024, Bandai Namco announced the addition of the Minato Aqua character to the roster of Sword Art Online: Last Recollection's playable characters.[16]
