This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

- Comment: Thank you for submitting this! It's an interesting article. Right now, the sources don't clearly demonstrate how this page meets WP:GNG or WP:CLERGY. Are there more sources that can be added? BuySomeApples (talk) 04:10, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Please note that there should be no external links in the body of the article - see WP:EL. You have lots ... they all need to go. You should also be referring to the subject as Crilly, not as Marc, in the body. WP does not use first names. Tagishsimon (talk) 00:32, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Biography edit
Early life edit
Marc Crilly was born on May 29, 1958 in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, USA, to Dr. Marc and Virginia (Badum) Crilly.[2] He is the third of eleven children. He attended high school at Indian Hills High School in Oakland, New Jersey, followed by in-house undergraduate studies at Saint Benedict Abbey in Still River, Massachusetts. He then attended the major seminary of Saint John's Seminary of the Archdiocese of Boston, Massachusetts.[3]
While Crilly was growing up, his family frequently visited Saint Benedict Abbey where the public is invited to worship with them and make private retreats.[4] In high school, he began visiting the Abbey on his own and in 1976, after graduation, he joined the community.[3]
Monastic life edit
After entering the novitiate, Crilly then professed his simple vows and on September 8, 1981, he professed his solemn monastic vows. He continued further studies in philosophy and theology in-house at Saint Benedict Abbey and in 1993, he completed his Master of Arts in Theology at Saint John's Seminary. On May 29, 1993, Crilly was ordained a priest at St. Leo Church in Leominster, Massachusetts.[5]
Crilly's primary contributions have been as Music Director, professor of Latin, Divine Office Book systemizer, Novice Master, and now as abbot. In his earlier years, he was an assistant in the barn when the Abbey had 120 dairy cows. He also assisted in the kitchen for many years. His community elected him third abbot of Saint Benedict Abbey on May 15, 2021. On August 14, 2021, Bishop Robert Joseph McManus of the Diocese of Worcester officially celebrated the Rite of Blessing of an Abbot on Crilly in St. John the Evangelist Church in Clinton, Massachusetts.[4] Around 650 people attended from the larger geographical area.[1]
Abbot Marc Crilly's Coat of Arms has a winged lion which represents Saint Mark. In the center of the Benedictine and Marian crosses lies a poppy symbolizing joy. He chose the following motto, "Caritas congaudet veritati" ("Charity rejoices in the truth," from 1 Cor. 13:6).[3] His feast day is April 25.
