Draft:Luis Duno-Gottberg

  • Comment: Reads like the sort of thing you might find on a University page about him - two thirds of it just consists of his books and so on. Is there any more information about him, rather than his publications? I'd suggest culling the middle paragraph and adding headings as well, if possible. • Comment: In addition to the other comments since the previous decline, regarding the subject's photography, sourcing "a keen eye for people an spaces" to the subject's Instagram page and other non-independent sources is not sufficient. • Comment: The section titled 'publications', which looks like a list of some sort, is causing a flag for copyright violations of this page. As lists of this kind could be seen as unduly promotional, my advice would be to remove the list from the article body, and maybe add a simple External Link at the bottom of the article linking to the said page. - RichT|C|E-Mail 10:10, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Luis Duno-Gottberg

Luis Duno-Gottberg (born 1968, Caracas) is a Venezuelan scholar and cultural critic currently residing between the United States and Spain. He holds the Lee Hage Jamail Endowed Chair of Latin American Studies at Rice University, having previously taught at the Universidad Simón Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela, and Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Duno-Gottberg's academic focus lies in 19th, 20th, and 21st-century Caribbean Culture. His research revolves around topics of race, ethnicity, politics and violence, with a particular interest in the politicization of precarious subjects [1][2][3]. In his writing, he calls for an engagement with the "gray zones of politics", where contentious action, criminal activities, and "the political" converge. In the context of Trump's presidency, he explored the dynamics of "hate" through academic coursework and public discourse [4][5].

Dr. Duno-Gottberg's recent scholarship centers on visual culture, exploring photographic representations of natural disasters [6][7], [8], [9], [10], [11]. As a photographer, his work combines an interest for street photography with conceptual art [12][13]. Beyond academia, he has served as a juror for prestigious literary awards, including the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize in 2013 and the José Donoso Ibero-American Literary Award in 2022 [14][15][16].
