The prime minister of the Maldives is the head of Government of the Maldives. During the period spanning from 1835 to 1975, the Prime Minister of the Maldives held the esteemed position of head of government. This significant role was pivotal in governing the Maldives, encompassing various political eras including the Sultanate, as well as the first and second republics.

Mohamed Amin Didi was the only prime minister who had directly elected by the people of Maldive Islands on December 21, 1950.[1] In the Dhivehi political system, the authority of the king had waned in the 1830s, allowing the prime minister to rise in prominence. With the ascent of prime ministerial power, then–sultanate had seen nine individuals hold the position. Among them was Ali Rannābandēri Kilegefān, who served as prime minister during the reign of Muhammad Imaaduddeen IV (Kuda Ban'daarain).[2] Last prime minister, Ahmed Zaki was appointed by the then–Citizen's Majlis and inaugurated on 1 August 1972.[3] However, in accordance with the 1968 constitution of Maldives, the president was given the power to remove the prime minister, later Prime Minister Zaki was removed from office, following that day, the country's prime Ministers position has been abolished.[4]
