A proposed railway line from Kanhangad railway station to Kaniyuru is long pending for the final approval from the railway authorities and Karnataka state government. The initial survey for the railway line has already been carried out and is found to be feasible.

Out of the 91 km Kanhangad - Kaniyuru railway line 40 km is in Kerala and remaining 50 km passes through Karnataka. The project have an estimate cost of 1400 crores for which Kerala has to bear 325 crores, Karnataka has to bear 350 crores and 725 crores has to bear by the central government.
