Joselin Nazareno (April 6, 1943 - September 13, 2006) is a Philippine Army General who served as the 28th Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from 1998 to September 1999. He was appointed by President Joseph Ejercito Estrada vice General Clemente Mariano who reached his mandatory retirement age[1]. He was appointed as ambassador to Pakistan after bowing out from the service[2]
Early Life and Education edit
Nazareno was born in April 6, 1943 in Cebu City and finished High School at Abellana National High School in 1961[3]. He entered Philippine Military Academy in 1962 and graduated in 1966[4].
Military Career edit
He joined Philippine Army upon graduation and commissioned as Second Lieutenant in 1966. He commanded 37th Infantry Battalion and became camp commander of Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City before going up to higher echelon. In 1995 He commanded 4th Infantry Division based in Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental [2]. He was part to the GRP Panel during the Peace Talks with MILF which came out with the General Cessation of Hostilities agreement with MILF. He then was appointed as Commander of AFP Southern Command in 1996.
He was appointed as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in 1998 [5] vice General Clemente Mariano. At his term the AFP was now dealing with Chinese intrusion and structure building at Spratlys[6] and kidnapping rampage of Abu Sayyaf. He was extended until July 8, 1999 to

He died on September 13, 2007 at Makati Medical Center due to lung cancer.[7]
