Jatson Nyingpo thangka in 18 century, originally from Doris Wiener Gallery, NY

Jatson Nyingpo (1585-1656) was one of the greatest Masters (tertöns) of Tibetan Buddhism.[1]. He was born in Waru, Kongpo, Tibet.

He revealed a treasure inventory written by Yeshe Tsogyel (the first female lama in Tibetan Buddhism), and also revealed numerous treasure texts, such as his well-known cycle, the Embodiment of the Precious Ones, and a Guru Rinpoche sadhana which inspired a lot of commentaries[2]. His revelations are referred to as the Six Volumes of Jatson Nyingpo[1].

He established the monastic center of Pangri Jokpo, and served as master to many prominent Nyingma and Kagyu lamas. In addition to the profile thangka originally from Doris Wiener Gallery of New York, a few other historical thangkas that depict him are listed at the Himalayanart page of Jatson Nyingpo[3]
