Known in its early days as Hotel Fundador D.Pedro, its construction was promoted by José Maria de Oliveira Machado Vaz and Alberto Pimenta Machado Jr; partners at the A.Pimenta, Lda firm.[1]

The place chosen for the construction on the hotel was the corner of D. Afonso Henriques Avenue and Eduardo Manuel de Almeida street.[2]
