Genic, stylized as GENIC and pronounced as "jenikku", is a seven-member mixed Japanese pop group (or so-called; co-ed group) [2]and made their major debut on May 2020, with the album "GENEX". The group consists of seven members:Atsuki Mashiko, Joe Nishizawa, Kakeru Amemiya, Maiki Nishimoto, Maria Kaneya, Ryuki Koike, and Yurari Ui.They belong to Avex Management agency and are signed under Avex Trax.

Their fandom name is GENICnation. And they called their fans GENImin.

2019: a-genic project edit

The a-genic project started in the spring of 2019 and brought together twelve young men and women who made it through auditions to be part of a limited-time unit as they compete for their place to become an official member, survivor style. The project started in the position of all friends and all rivals.[3] Their activities were released on the official youtube channel every Friday at 18:00 JST.[4]

A recording began after the announcement of the formation. Two original songs, "Ready Go" and "Natsu koi" (夏恋 ; Summer Love), were released. Two weeks later, a three-day training camp was held at Shirahama Floral Hall. At the training camp, various pieces of training such as dance lessons and vocal training also physical training were conducted, and it became possible to show the original music in public.[5][6][7]

On June 9, the selected members made their live debut as an opening act at their senior's tour (Da-iCE BEST TOUR 2019) in Niigata, and they performed "Ready Go" and "Natsu koi".[8]

After that, they live activities continued in various places.They even appeared as an opening act of each performance of a-nation 2019 (the largest outdoor festival in Japan, hosted by Avex Group, the agency they belong to).Performing members were selected for each live performance. [9][10]

After a gauntlet of exhausting lessons and live performances, the official seven members were chosen later in August the same year. Adopting the new name Genic.[11][12]

2019–present: Genic edit

  • 2019

On November 1, 2019, it was announced that the group would be renamed from a-genic to Genic, on Instagram Live.[13] They released their first compilation in November called Sungenic EP.The album includes four original songs from a-genic, "Ready Go" and "Natsu koi" as well as "Sun Comes Up" and "Histories". "Sun Comes Up" was composed by Da-iCE performer and leader Daiki Kudo, who is a senior at the agency.[14] And had their first show Genic Premium Showcase in December at Tsutaya O-West, marking their first steps in growing into their own shoes.[15]

  • 2020

In 2020, they held Genic Live Circuit 2020, nine performances at nine venues in nine prefectures.[16] But sadly their four last performances (Osaka[17], Okayama[18], Fukushima[19], Kanagawa[20]) were cancelled due to the spread of coronavirus. The final performance on March 29 was performed on youtube.[21]

In February, they released their second compilation, Moongenic EP. In May, before they released their first album, It has been decided that their first live tour, Genic Live Tour 2020 -GENEX, will be held.[22] But their first live tour was also cancelled due to the coronavirus.[23]

On May 27 , they still made their major debut and released album Genex.[24]

On November 1, Genic 1st Anniversary Live Celebration, was held online. The next day, the group's 1st anniversary song, digital single "Celebration", was released. It was a song written in collaboration with GENImin to commemorate Genic's first anniversary.[25]

  • 2021

On January 15 , the official fan club Genicnation was established.[26]

On February 3 , the collaboration song "Futures" with Koran Women's Junior College as the first digital single to be distributed for three consecutive months were released. Ryuki Koike's lyrics encourage young people to believe in their 'bright future'.[27]

On March 3 , the second digital single "Kitaru Haru" was released for 3 months consecutively.This song was produced by Ryuki Koike and Joe Nishizawa, who collaborated remotely by exchanging on Twitter during 'House Time', while staying in due to the corona disaster in April 2020.[28] And GENIC's first video work, "1st Anniversary Live -Celebration" was also released.[29]

April 5 , "Haru Urara", the third digital single released for 3 consecutive months, was released.The lyrics, co-written by Ryuki Koike, Joe Nishizawa and Chikara Gonohe are about 'friendship', 'helping each other', and 'the meaning of life'. The song was used as the ending theme for the TV anime "Fruits Basket The Final".[30]

From July 3 to July 24 ,The "GENIC LIVE TOUR 2021 -GENEX-", GENIC's first live tour, which canceled last year, was held.[31]

On June 30 , the digital single "Shaky Shaky" was released. Also, on July 26 , the digital single "Shaky Shaky" (Joe Shakin' Remix), a remix work by Joe Nishizawa, was released.[32]

On August 18 , the Digital single "Mawarimichi" was released. Nishizawa Joe wrote and arranged this single. He also designed the jacket and directed the Music Video.[33]

  • 2022

On January 26 , the video work "GENIC LIVE TOUR 2021 -GENEX-", which recorded GENIC's first live house tour was released.

On February 2 . the digital single "We Gotta Move" was released.This song was written by Ryuki Koike and Joe Nishizawa.[34]

From February 16 to March 16 , their "GENIC LIVE HOUSE TOUR 2022 -We Gotta Move-" was held.[35]

On July 6 , 2nd album Ever Yours was released.[36]

From July 16 to September 16 , their "GENIC LIVE TOUR 2022 -Ever Yours-" was held.Due to five members being infected with the new coronavirus, the Hokkaido and Osaka performances scheduled for July were postponed and rescheduled for September.[37]

September 7 , the digital single "TALK" was released. This song is a collaboration work by Daiki Kudo of Da-iCE, Ryuki Koike, and Joe Nishizawa.[38]

  • 2023

On February 15 , the digital single "Flavor" was released. This song was written, composed, and arranged by Ryuki Koike and Joe Nishizawa.[39]

From February 23 to April 8 , their "GENIC LIVE HOUSE TOUR 2023 -Flavors-" was held.Additionally, an additional performance was held on April 29th as a "Special Edition".[40]

On December 22 , the digital single "Sayonara no wake" was released. This song was written by Ryuki Koike and Joe Nishizawa.[41]

  • 2024

On January 15 , the digital single "I'll Be There" was released. This song was written by Atsuki Mashiko and Joe Nishizawa.[42]

On March 6 , the 3rd album N_G was released.This album contains songs self-produced by each of the seven members.[43]

From March 9 to April 7 , their "GENIC LIVE TOUR 2024 -N_G-" was held.[44]

Atsuki Mashiko (増子敦貴) was born on January 5, 2000, in Fukushima. He was a member of the mixed dance and vocal group "α-X’s"(pronounced as across). He is also active as an actor.His most famous work is the role of Haku in Spirited Away.

Joe Nishizawa (西澤呈) was born on February 28, 2003, in Kanagawa. He was a member of the mixed dance and vocal group "α-X’s"(pronounced as across). He writes, composes, and arranges many of GENIC's songs.He's already released some solo songs. His song "Dare mo shiranai kimi wo misete"(誰も知らない君を見せて) have been listened over 100 million times on TikTok.

Kakeru Amemiya (雨宮翔) was born on August 9, 2001, in Kanagawa. He was a member of the boys dance and vocal group "BE×DUNK". He played the role of Nishijima Takahiro (Nissy) in chibikko AAA. He is a dance leader of GENIC.He choreographed some of GENIC's songs.

Maiki Nishimoto (西本茉生) was born on October 19, 1998, in Okayama. He was a member of the mixed dance and vocal group "α-X’s"(pronounced as across). He is a leader of GENIC.He is the oldest member.

Maria Kaneya (金谷鞠杏) was born on December 31, 2001, in Akita. She crowned Miss World Japan 2020.She is a member of another girls group "QUEENDOM".

Ryuki Koike (小池竜暉) was born on August 11, 2000, in Gunma. He was a member of the boys dance and vocal group "BE×DUNK". He writes, composes, and arranges many of GENIC's songs.He is also a songwriter, composer, and arranger for other groups besides GENIC.

Yurari Ui (宇井優良梨) was born on December 26, 2004, in Aichi. She is a former model for "Pink Latte". She is currently active as a model.She is the youngest member.
