Presented by the Curt Bergfors Foundation, the Food Planet Prize is the largest monetary award in the global food arena.[1][2][3][4][5][6] It focuses on initiatives that impact how we produce, process, and consume food with a mission of reducing environmental impact.[7][8] The founding capital is sourced from the private assets of Curt Bergfors, a Swedish entrepreneur who founded the chain Max Hamburgers. [9][10][11][12] The foundation also funds a professorship at the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University.[13] The prize received more than 1,000 nominations in 2023. [14][15] Past winners include ColdHubs, a Nigerian project reducing food waste through solar-powered cold storage rooms, and B4Plastics, a Belgian project developing polymers for the fishing industry that biodegrade. [8][16][17] Each winner receives $2 million. [18][4]

Jury members include Magnus Nilsson, Johan Rockström, and Lindiwe Majele Sibanda.[19][20][21][22]
