Eshan Sachin Arya (born 1985) is an Australian social scientist, educator and martial artist. He is a direct descendant of Vasudev Balwant Phadke.

Education

Dr. Eshan Arya holds a PhD in Social Inquiry and Politics from La Trobe University. He also possesses a Master in International Relations with Honours, a Bachelor in Economics, and an MBA. His PhD thesis on Indian student migrants in Australia is frequently cited in discussions about Australian immigration policies.

Career

Dr. Arya began his academic career at La Trobe University, where he lectured in Business, Management, and Economics at the La Trobe Business School and for the LBS MBA program. He later joined the University of Melbourne, lecturing in Economics and contributing to the Melbourne MBA program. Since 2021, Dr. Arya has held leadership positions within the University of Melbourne[1] Residences at Little Hall and International House. Additionally, he has served as a Director for Muskaan Support Australia and Six Degrees BPO.[2]

Martial arts and advocacy work

Dr. Arya has been active in developing welfare and engagement programs that address racism, domestic violence, and provide support for at-risk youth and international students.[3] He has received several awards in Australia and New Zealand for his contributions to management, lecturing, and community leadership. With 61 academic publications[4], Dr. Arya has significantly influenced educational policy and student accommodations across Australia[5]. [6]In 2023, he was invited to speak at the G20 summit in India on engaging youth in sustainable global futures. Dr. Arya is also a member of the Olympic Council for Asia for Jiu-Jitsu and holds the title of Shihan (師範) in martial arts, recognized by the World Martial Arts Organisation. [7]He is a former Asian and South Asian full-contact Kumite Champion. In 2019, he founded a registered style of Goju Ryu called Arya-Kai Goju Ryu.[8]

Awards and honours

Dr. Arya has won multiple best academic awards and is the Pan Australia NZ winner for best residential program by UniLodge Australia. He has been named student of the year, leader of the year, and community leader of the year by various organizations in Victoria and Australia, including the Victorian Multicultural Council for his work in community upliftment and international student welfare[9]. Dr. Arya is a life member of La Trobe Student Union and was the first Indian-origin postgraduate officer within an Australian Union.[10]
