• Comment: The article is well written but has an exclusive reliance on primary sources, lacking evidence of reliable secondary coverage suitable for general notability. In particular, the article mostly relies on the EreaDrone website and media and FAI for its information. Secondary reception is drawn from the Steam website, which is generally discouraged as a reliable source. If there are reliable secondary sources like news or magazine articles that discuss the software, that may help. VRXCES (talk) 07:54, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

EreaDrone is a first-person view (FPV) drone racing simulator developed and published by EreaDrone, released on June 23, 2023. It is recognized for its realism and versatility in simulating drone racing experiences.

History edit

Development edit

Developed by Elouan Jorrand, a young French racing FPV pilot, in collaboration with ISAE-ENSMA..[1], the simulator offers an accurate physics engine, realistic environments, and a user-friendly map editor. The game includes 16 different environments and supports up to 8 pilots and 4 spectators in multiplayer mode[2].

History edit

EreaDrone was initiated as a personal project by Elouan Jorrand, a French FPV drone pilot and former competitor. The project began in 2017 with the development of EreaDrone 2018[3]. EreaDrone 2018, the first version, was released as an early access game. It featured a realistic FPV simulator, partnership with ENSMA for physics development, and new maps like the FAI World Drone Racing Championships 2018 Shenzhen map[4].

In 2020, the creator decided to overhaul the project, leading to the development of EreaDrone 2023. The new version aimed to address the limitations of the previous edition and focus on creating a more comprehensive and realistic drone racing simulator[5].

EreaDrone 2023 was released in 2023, improving upon its predecessor with enhanced graphics, physics, and gameplay. Post-release, the simulator received significant updates addressing performance issues, physics refinement, and user interface improvements. Continuous engagement with the community has been a key part of its development process and most of the issues have been fixed since the initial release[6][7].

From September, it gained recognition in the drone racing community, being featured in events like the 2023 FAI eDrone Racing Cup in Namwon, Korea. This event was the first officially FAI (international federation recognized by IOC[8]) recognized eDrone event[9][10][11].

Gameplay edit

EreaDrone 2023 offers various game modes including racing, freestyle, challenges, and more. The simulator is noted for its detailed environments, ranging up to 5 kilometers wide, and an advanced map editor for custom track creation[12].

Recognition by FAI edit

Since 2018, EreaDrone 2023 is the only drone racing simulator officially recognized by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). It was used in the FAI 2023 World Drone Racing Championship in Namwon, underscoring its alignment with international drone racing standards[13].

The first eDrone event, featuring EreaDrone 2023, was a notable development in drone racing as an eSport. This event demonstrated the simulator's capacity for competitive play and its appeal to professional drone pilots[14].

Reception edit

EreaDrone 2023 has received mostly positive reviews [15], particularly for its immersive experience and ongoing improvements. It is also recognized for its role in the drone racing community, being the official simulator for the 2023 FAI eDrone Racing Cup[16]

Availability edit

The game is available on Steam and supports both English and French languages[17]
